We are thrilled to welcome Joann Schermerhorn to #TeamVIDA as Community Manager of VIDA Virtual. For anyone who’s been part of the VIDA community for a while, this isn’t just a new hire announcement — it’s a homecoming story.
From Guest Practitioner to Founding Member
Joann’s relationship with VIDA Coworking started before she was ever technically a member. She first showed up as a guest pop-up practitioner at our Portland location, offering wellness and day spa services to members — and, as she puts it, falling a little bit in love with the community in the process.
That connection deepened when Joann became a Founding Member of VIDA Beaverton in August 2023, bringing her esthetician practice, Sojourn Ayurvedic, onsite and introducing members and the greater Beaverton community to her amazing hand-made products and restorative Ayurvedic-inspired services.
A Move, and an Unexpected Way Back
Just a month after becoming a founding Beaverton member, Joann’s husband’s job brought the family back to their hometown of Overland Park, in the Kansas City area. It was a bittersweet goodbye to VIDA’s physical space — but not, as it turned out, to VIDA itself.
When VIDA Virtual launched in January 2026, Joann was there on day one, becoming one of the community’s very first members. Coworking online meant she never really had to leave the community she’d grown to love — she simply found a new way to show up for it, from a thousand miles away.
Why Joann Is the Right Fit for VIDA Virtual
With 25 years of experience building spaces where people feel genuinely at home — from managing spas and wellness centers to running her own online wellness and skincare brand since 2010 — Joann brings a rare combination to the role: deep people-first instincts paired with real digital strategy chops, including web content, SEO, and online community building.
Her understanding of VIDA’s community and culture, paired with her comfort leading both in-person and online spaces, makes her uniquely equipped to guide VIDA Virtual’s next chapter. As she describes it, joining VIDA as Community Manager feels less like a new job and more like coming home — and she’s here to make sure every virtual member, wherever they are in the world, feels exactly the same way.
When she’s not hosting your coworking sessions, you’ll probably find her deep into a crochet project, hanging out with her four cats and husband, hunting down a new favorite restaurant, traveling, or treating herself to a well-earned wellness day.
