Fall Activities in Portland & Beaverton Areas
Attend a Local Festival
You can find a local festival nearly every weekend from September to the end of November in Portland. Here are three that we can’t wait to attend with family and friends:
- Spirit of Halloweentown: Just a 45-minute drive from Portland, Oregon, the town of St. Helens hosts a spooky celebration through Oct. 31. The town has costume contests, haunted tours, face painting and tarot card readings all October long.
- Dogtober Fest: Celebrate the season with your four-legged furry friend at Lucky Lab Brew Pub on Sept. 30. Check out local pet-loving vendors while listening to music and tasting food and special brews.
- Lee Farms Fall Harvest Festival: Running through Oct. 29, the Lee Farms Harvest Festival is fun for the whole family. It has hayrides, hay and corn mazes, animal displays, a jump pad, slides, a bakery and snack barn.
- Hood River Hops Fest: This event is perfect for craft beer lovers. The Hood River Hops Fest on Oct. 7 features more than 40 fresh-hop beers from over 30 breweries. Plus, there’s live music and food vendors.
Check out Fall Foliage
Beaverton and Portland in the fall are like no other. Walking on local trails or the Portland waterfront offers incredible views of all the fall colors that transform the landscape. Here are our favorite spots to view fall foliage:
- Portland Japanese Garden: Catch the leaves falling from the famous Japanese Maple trees by walking through the Japanese Garden. No visit is complete without a trip to the Umami Cafe for a little tea to warm up after hours outside.
- Multnomah Falls: Just 30 minutes outside of Portland, the Multnomah Falls are an unbelievable sight in autumn. Spy the gorgeous 611-foot-tall waterfall surrounded by fall foliage.
- Eagle Creek Trail: Journey along miles of trails to view autumnal colors on the Eagle Creek Trail. The trail boasts several waterfalls for photo ops and enchanting views.
Pick Seasonal Fruits & Veggies
It’s not truly fall without trips to pumpkin patches and apple orchards, is it? Here are our favorite places to pick or buy seasonal fruits and veggies:
- The Corn Maize at the Pumpkin Patch: Open through Oct. 31, the Corn Maize at the Pumpkin Patch features U-Pick pumpkin patches and a farm fresh market with fruit, vegetables, homemade dressings, pickles, jams and more.
- Hood River Fruit Loop: The Hood River Valley features 14,500 acres of pear, apple and cherry trees, meaning the Fruit Loop is bountiful in the fall. Venture along the loop to visit a plethora of farmstands and U-Pick farms.
- Hood River Valley Harvest Fest: Enjoy the pinnacle of the harvest season Oct. 13-15 at the Hood River Valley Harvest Fest. Stock up on fresh apples, squash, pears, raw honey, local plants and flowers while at the festival.
