All throughout October, families can pick pumpkins, enjoy a hay ride, buy fresh produce from the market, and visit bunnies, sheep, goats, chickens and alpacas in the barn. The patch is legendary for its corn maze, which offers family-friendly experiences and haunted walkthroughs.

Portland is packed with pumpkin patches, all perfect for breaking out the flannel. Families can choose from a plethora of options throughout September and October. The Plumper Pumpkin Patch is an especially entertaining location. The farm, which has views of the Willamette River, allows pickers to load pumpkin cannons and blast their pumpkins hundreds of feet in the air. In Forest Park, we love the Tolinda Trail up to the Waterline Trail. It’s a nice workout, plus beauty and nature galore! 

Or on the other side oft the Columbia River, the Lake to Lake Trail Loop via Lacamas Creek hike just outside of Camas is another fave. You can take a row or a picnic on Lacamas Lake, or the more adventurous can even a dip in the Pothole Falls! 

Wahclella Falls is another jaw-dropping nature trail with breathtaking water features. 

The Hood River Fruit Loop

Fall is the perfect time of the year to enjoy a long, scenic car ride. The Hood River Fruit Loop, a 35-mile loop around the Hood River Valley, is just the place to take one. While driving around the loop, you can view all the colors of fall and stop at a variety of restaurants and shops for additional autumn fun. The Gorge White House, which offers U-pick flowers, a fruit stand, beer, hard cider, wine and a farm-fresh cafe, is a must-stop.

The Moonlight Market

The Lan Su Chinese Garden is hosting its first Moonlight Market in celebration of the mid-autumn festival. Fun for all ages, the market will feature traditional Chinese festival experiences, including local vendors, arts and crafts, lion dances, lantern parades, music, local food and more. 

The Spirit of Halloweentown

The town of St. Helens, which was featured in Disney Channel’s Halloweentown, hosts an annual festival throughout September and October. Families can enjoy trick or treating, costume contests, haunted town tours, ghost talks, tarot card readings and face painting.

West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta

In Portland, pumpkins aren’t just for carving jack-o-lanterns. They’re also used to carve boats. The Pumpkin Regatta begins with a pumpkin parade and weigh-off, and ends with participants paddling around Tualatin Commons lake in 1,000-lb pumpkin boats. It’s a sight you won’t want soon forget (or want to miss).
